My video about the Protect-IP Bill (Sopa)

Hey fellow maniacs! As you all know, I am adamantly doing my part to spread awareness of this "Protect-IP act" (SOPA)....heck, lets call it what it really is "Internet Censorship (The Death of YouTube). Click the jump to see my video rant on the subject, and please spread awareness to your friends and online community. This bill can NOT pass if we want to keep free speech and economic online growth.

Protect-IP Act (SOPA) is Internet Censorship and must be stopped!

  1. Jeremy, thank you SO much for talking about this. YouTube has helped me decide what I want to do as a career, (actor/director). and I am so involved with YouTube, Facebook, twitter, etc. that if they were to disappear, I don't know what I would do. I signed the two petitions you put up and I sent a letter as well, and I will sign a thousand more petitions and write a thousand more letters if it meant that this bill will not pass. So thank you again Jeremy, because frankly, You are awesome!

  2. Sending another email right now... I NEED to see this bill burned into the smoldering pile of bullshit that it really is.

  3. Although not from the US, I also signed both petitions you put into the Youtube description box.

I totally agree with you. The people behind this ridiculous bill disgust me. They, or the government in every country for that matter, only care for their internal discussions and how much money they make.

I saw a video of a Dutch debate, and frankly, it was too sad to watch.
And then comes this bill. On of the stupidest ideas ever in the history of mankind.
People have always found ways to contact each other, and get their opinion across. Look at the invention of radios, telephones, and more recently the Internet.

To try and take this away, is taking away part of what being human is about. Interaction with other people is one of the most important things in life.

The whole Piracy is overrated anyway. Those guys make so much more money I (or just regular people, cuz I know lots of people who feel the same) could never even dream off. And I don't even want to, because I can see what kinds of people have that much money. They are all unfortunately the same. Greedy and selfish is the way to go in the top jobs.

Oh, how I wish I would be in the room with the government when they talk about this crap. I'm not saying I would be violent ^_^, but I would love to slap some sense into these people.

I thank and salute you for your video and your actions to stop this from happening. Shared it on Facebook (hope you won't use this bill on me now :P) and took actions myself as well.

If all people unite, there is nothing the government can do to stop us.

  5. I'm not sure I quite get how the US government can shut down those websites, I mean arent they apart of the world wide web? wouldn't that bypass every other country that uses the website itself?
I'm from Canada, but I still get how this is an outrageous bill they're trying to pass on the USA, but would this bill ultimately affect me or someone from Japan or Russia or something?

  6. I'm glad you got up and called bullshit on this. If one wasn't very cynical of the US government before, then the floodgates opened.

Another problem with this whole "copyright infringement" stuff is copying and distribution of pictures. Say for example you want to look up a Lady GaGa album cover. Once you type that into Google or any other search engine, you will find hundreds of thousands -if not more - of just one image. In a way, if the SOPA/Protect IP law passes, ever single website with that image will be shut down.

That's pretty stupid and it will break the internet.

  7. What has our beloved nation become? We were once rebels that fended off TWICE a world wide power to perserve our rights and liberties for our childern to have. The only people I know of to support this bill are big entertanment companies and lawyers. Both are oviously in it for loads of cash.

Since when has Godgiven rights been thrown in the street for a few extra bucks that you can make by actually putting effort into your work. We get movies like Vampires Suck and Transformers 2 and they have made millions! If they want money so bad why don't they just make more movies like Larry Crown or even the latest Pirates of the Carribean movie. I'm not asking for the next Inception or Lord of the Rings. I just want to see something that doesn't make me gag or something that actually has some effort put in.

The only two people I know of, for certain, that put a lot of effort into their work at the studios are Nolan and Bale. Question why they earn their money? Go see Inception for Nolan. Yes, they went to six countries for shooting. Go see the Machanist for Bale. Yes, those are his real bones.
